You'll need some technical skills
Comfort with voice network design and maintenance (Cisco Call Manager / Cisco Unified) Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity, QOS, video, and voice gateways
Knowledge of network protocols such BGP, EIGRP, and GRE
Understanding of network virtualization technologies such as VLAN, VRF, GRE, OTV, and MPLS
Knowledge of Cisco Nexus 7000/5000/2000 series of switches and Cisco NX-OS
Practical experience with security issues and access control mechanisms - firewalls, VPN, and NAC
In-depth knowledge of network monitoring using SNMP, Netflow, and IP SLA
Experience with Cisco Meraki wireless or F5 load balancers a plus
And you'll need some good business skills
Ability to communicate complicated IT information within the IT department and out to the rest of the business, adjusting to each person's level of knowledge
Organization, delegation, cooperation and similar skills will help you manage projects as well
The bottom line
You will be a resource to the department and the firm--you'll need to identify technical solutions to business problems and take them through implementation. Overall, you'll need professional-level knowledge of Cisco network and voice products enabling you to design, implement, support, and maintain 24x7 network services, serving as one of the levels of escalation for network and voice issues.
